A week of meals for a kid who only eats mac and cheese

Here's a sample week for a child whose main safe food is mac and cheese. Every day has something familiar on the plate, and a few meals follow the mac and cheese food chain (same crunch, same shape, same dip, one small change at a time) so a new food never feels like a big leap.

How to use this week

  • Keep a safe food on the plate at every meal, so there's always something they'll eat.
  • Serve new foods next to familiar ones, never instead of them. A single bite-sized piece is plenty.
  • Swap meals around freely. Repeating a meal that worked is a win, not a failure.
  • For kids under 4, cut food into small, soft pieces and halve round foods like blueberries.
Monday
Breakfast · Cheesy Scrambled Eggs

Soft scrambled eggs with melted cheddar.

🥬 Stealth: Whisk a splash of milk into the eggs.
🍽️ Plating: Serve with toast strips.
💬 The same cheesy flavor they love.
Lunch · Mac and Cheese Cup

Their usual boxed mac and cheese with apple slices on the side.

🥬 Stealth: Make it with whole milk.
🍽️ Plating: Apple slices in their own cup.
💬 Exactly the safe food.
Dinner · New-Shape Mac Night

Boxed mac and cheese made with shells or a different brand.

🥬 Stealth: Stir in a spoonful of plain Greek yogurt with the cheese.
🍽️ Plating: Use their favorite bowl so the change feels small.
💬 A slightly different look, same idea (step 1).
Tuesday

Toast with melted cheese, cut into strips.

🥬 Stealth: Use whole-wheat bread.
🍽️ Plating: Cut into four strips for dipping into yogurt.

Dinner · Homemade Stovetop Mac

Elbow pasta in a simple butter, milk and cheddar sauce.

🥬 Stealth: Blend a little cooked cauliflower into the sauce.
🍽️ Plating: Serve a small portion next to a spoonful of the boxed kind.
💬 Real cheese sauce, a little richer (step 2).
Wednesday
Breakfast · Yogurt Parfait

Vanilla yogurt with soft banana slices.

🥬 Stealth: Stir in a spoonful of chia seeds 10 minutes before serving so they soften.
🍽️ Plating: Let them layer it themselves.
💬 Sweet and smooth.

Classic grilled cheese cut into strips.

🥬 Stealth: Brush the bread with butter for an even golden crunch.
🍽️ Plating: Serve with a small cup of tomato soup for dipping.
💬 Cheesy and familiar.
Dinner · Chicken and Cheesy Pasta

Homemade mac with small pieces of plain chicken on the side.

🥬 Stealth: Shred the chicken finely so it's soft.
🍽️ Plating: Chicken goes next to the pasta, not mixed in.

Thursday

Small pancakes with butter.

🥬 Stealth: Add a spoonful of pumpkin puree to the batter.
🍽️ Plating: Shape them into circles or hearts.

🥬 Stealth: Cook the rice in low-sodium broth.
🍽️ Plating: Serve in a small bowl with a spoon.
💬 Creamy and cheesy, like mac.

Penne in a mild cheese sauce, baked until golden on top.

Baked breaded chicken tenders with a cheese dipping sauce.

🥬 Stealth: Add grated parmesan to the breading.
🍽️ Plating: Serve the cheese sauce in a cup for dipping.
